‘Time-to-power’ is now playing an important role in the value equation of new developments. This is forcing businesses take an active approach to energy provision. They can no longer be passive and wait for a grid connection. The aim is to break free from the grid queue and its constraints, decoupling economic growth from fossil energy and grid dependency.

The question is - who to turn to? There are many vested interests in this space with solutions to offer. Nearly 500 Independent Connection Providers (ICPs), are accredited under the National Electricity Scheme. They design and build systems that connect new developments to the electricity network.

There are 14 Distribution System Operators (DSO) or Independent Distribution Network Operators (IDNOs) that are Ofgem-licensed. They also design, build, own, and maintain local electricity networks. They provide 70-80% of electricity connections for new developments. There are over 260 electricity production companies in the UK.

Getting independent advice on grid connection issues is not easy. No one is agnostic when it comes to offering energy solutions in the UK. Achieving clarity on the challenges and solutions is essential. Hoare Lea does not have any vested interest in this sector and is able to offer best-of-breed solutions.

We call it the golden thread. A recipe, the right mix, that matches the power generation and demand profile for a business. It’s personal.
