An exploration in facilitating world-changing discovery.
PLACES
Ray Dolby Centre, Cambridge.
The client: University of Cambridge
The architect: Jestico+Whiles
The expertise: Acoustics, Audiovisual, EMI Design, Intelligent Buildings, Lighting Design, MEP, Operational Assets, Performance, Security, Sustainability (BREEAM), Vertical Transportation, Vibration
The challenge: To create a world-leading physics research facility that could accommodate science so sensitive that nearby speed bumps had to be removed to avoid vibration. The plant was physically separated from the main labs for the same reason, with the whole building heated and cooled via a huge ground source heat pump array using 150m deep boreholes.
The sector: Higher Education, Science & Research
